With Microsoft Layout our goal was to build an app that would help people use HoloLens to bring designs from concept to completion using some of the superpowers mixed reality makes possible. With Microsoft Layout customers can import 3-D models to easily create and edit room layouts in real-world scale. Further, you can experience designs as high-quality holograms in physical space or in virtual reality and share and edit with stakeholders in real time.
Interaction and UI design
It as been a privilege to work on one of the first mixed reality productive application. Having a background in architecture, I felt this project connected with multiple passions of mine, user interfaces, augmented/virtual reality and space planning. I have designed and implemented the UI and worked on the user interaction. We have multiple partners that gave us a great amount of feedback and user insights. On site visits with them as been eye-opening for me and observing how people interact with mixed reality tools gave me a ton of user interaction knowledge for these new up-and-coming platforms.
Motion studies
Here is some quick motion studies from different phases of the project. My goal producing these animations are understanding how the design will work in motion, defining the timing as well as communicating the nuances and the vision to the rest of the team.
